Sylvia Margaret Cameron Brissette (nee Davis)
Sylvia passed away the morning of November 2, 2018 at the Villa Care Centre in Midland Ontario from complications due to a stroke. We are all deeply saddened by her passing but are heartened by the way in which she rallied in these past few months and the precious time we were able to spend with her.
Sylvia was born May 11, 1935 in Toronto. She came to Midland as a young bride with a baby boy in 1955 and set about in her determined way to build a life that was full of love, generosity and a deep commitment to helping others. She was a well-known figure in the business community, working for many years at the TD Bank and was also known for her volunteer work with the Y’s Men’s Music Festival and the Canadian Cancer Society. She was named Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2002, an honour she was particularly proud of. For many years Sylvia was a member of Branch 68 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Penetang where she served on the Ladies Auxiliary. In her retirement she continued her volunteer work as well as traveling to Florida in the winters and consorting with the Red Hatters. She also was a proud grandmother and now a great grandmother.
Sylvia was warm hearted and welcomed people into her home and life without reservation. She was a source of great happiness and joy and never hesitated to help when she could. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Sylvia is pre-deceased by her first husband (John). She is survived by her husband Norman Brissette with whom she shared twenty nine wonderful years, her two sisters Joan and Marlene, her sons Douglas (Lily Harmer) and David (Doris Lesvesque), her grandchildren Daphne, Caroline and Sean, her great-grandson Zavier, and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family with whom she was especially close.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 10th at Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Avenue, Midland Ontario. There will be a visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m and a reception nearby following the service. Donations in Sylvia’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
