After defiantly battling illness over the past several months, Susan could fight no longer and passed peacefully in Burlington at the Joseph Brant hospital on November 12, 2018, with her son Andrew at her side. To all who knew her, the world is a little less bright with her gone.
Born to her parents William and Catherine Hunter on April 20, 1957 in the city of Sarnia, Ontario, Susan, known to her friends as “Sam”, was always known as a bubbly, outgoing, creative and free-spirited individual. She lived life on her own terms and was always in search of her next adventure. In May 1979, she married Wayne Douglas Wright and together they brought their two sons into the world; Andrew Lawson George Wright, born September 22, 1982 and Nathan Douglas Sanford Wright, born August 6, 1986. Though their marriage ended in 1988, Susan remained close with her sons and Andrew & Nathan have many fond memories of their visits with her. Susan always encouraged their silly side, their creativity and never failed to challenge them to grow beyond their boundaries.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Susan, she will be remembered as an artist, a dancer, a singer, a prankster and a soul ever-ready for a celebration, regardless of the occasion. Although she may have not always understood the absurdities of life, Susan recognized beauty in the world and challenged unfairness when she saw it. Her skill as an illustrator, her love as a mother, and her wicked sense of humour will be dearly missed. Susan is survived by her sons, her brother Lawson Hunter, her sister Elizabeth Walton, and her two grandchildren Hunter & Lola, within whom the best parts of Susan will endure.
Susan’s family is planning to hold a Celebration of Life sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2019, as all who knew her will tell you, she would not want her send-off to be a funeral, but a party. As plans are finalized we will notify her family and friends & give her the beautiful memorial she deserves. Please sing the online book of condolences at www.baygardens.ca
