STREMEL Jeanette —

STREMEL, Jeanette

Jeanette (LeDrew) Stremel passed away on February 12th, 2018. She showed strength and resiliency in the months she lived with cancer, and is now at peace. She is survived by her loving family: husband John; daughter Krista; son Brent; granddaughter Josie; sisters Jean, June and Inez; and brothers Walter and Ivan. She is predeceased by her sister Elizabeth, and parents Harry and Flora LeDrew.
Jeanette was a selfless and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, (or “Nanny” as she was called) and an incredibly devoted sister and friend. In her 73 years, she made lifelong friends all over the world, from her early childhood in Traytown, NL, to her early adulthood in Vancouver, during her 2 years spent in Australia in the ‘70’s, and especially the 42 years she spent in Westbank, BC, from 1976 until her death. In her work as a medical office receptionist, she also touched numerous lives with her positive attitude and warm smile. She was loved by many, and loved many in return. In recent years, the most significant person in her life was her only grandchild, Josie Anne. Jeanette was patient, caring, and loving as a parent, and doubly so as Nanny. Her love for and pride in Josie showed in every aspect of her life.
Jeanette enjoyed nothing more than a day filled with phone calls with loved ones, a coffee, a walk, or a movie with friends, time spent in her garden, crocheting, knitting, or working on word jumbles or sudoku. She quietly volunteered her time when she could, including helping in a school reading program and a young mom’s group, and knitting children’s clothes to send to hospitals and overseas. She continued to enjoy both camping and travel throughout her life, and had opportunities to visit Singapore, Hawaii, the Cook Islands, New York, Quebec, Alaska, France, and Morocco, as well as to return to Australia in her later years. Jeanette’s was a life well-lived.
A memorial service will be held on February 24th, 2018, at 1 pm, at Emmanuel Assembly in West Kelowna, BC. Pastor Jeff will be officiating.
The family offers our thanks to the kind staff of Kelowna General Hospital, Dr. Alexis Thomson and Dr. Deepu Mirchandani, and the West Kelowna Palliative Care nursing team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Canada.
