Steve’s Obituary
Steve Petrowich, lifetime resident of the Royce/Lubeck district, passed away November 26, 2018 in Fairview, Alberta at the age of 84.
Steve was born February 16, 1934. He was the third son of William and Mary and was born on their farm in Peace Grove, northwest of Hines Creek.
In 1942, the family moved to the Royce District. Steve attended the Fairview College from 1952 to 1954 where he studied agriculture. In 1954, he acquired his first quarter of land. In addition to farming in the summer, Steve spent many winters driving lumber trucks in the early years.
In 1962, he and brother John bought some land from Herman Loxterkamp where Steve resided until his passing.
In 1965, Steve married Janet Syrnyk. They have three children: Donna, Wayne and Karen.
After years of driving log trucks for others and selling off a small herd of cattle, Steve and John purchased their first log truck in 1978. Their brother Walter joined the partnership in 1981, which allowed for the purchase of another truck. Steve continued his involvement in the log haul until 2000.
Over the years, Steve acquired more farmland. Steve and Janet continued to reside on the farm with Wayne taking over while Steve helped out.
Steve enjoyed going for drives, checking crops, weekly trips to the garbage dump where he enjoyed visits with neighbours and most importantly, spending time with his family.
He was predeceased brother Andrew, mother Maria and father William.
Steve is survived by his wife Janet, his children: Donna (Perry), Wayne (Corine) and Karen, grandchildren: Sam, Dawson, Patrick and Keely, brothers John (Ruth), Walter (Geraldine) and brother in law Nester (Sharon) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Memories in Fairview. As per Steve’s wishes, service will be held at the All Saints Catholic Church in Hines Creek at 10:00 am on Friday, November 30, 2018. Interment to follow at the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Royce. The family invites friends to join them at the Dave Shaw Memorial Complex for a time of fellowship afterwards.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Steve’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
