OBITUARY
Stella Stephania BROCKHOUSE
18 February , 1928 – 4 September , 2018
On September 4, 2018, Mrs. Stella Brockhouse of Vernon, BC passed away at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her sons Michael of Calgary and Randy of Winnipeg, daughter, Kathy (Keith) Penhall of Winnipeg; 2 brothers & 1 sister, Joseph Yewchin of Surrey, B.C., Olga (Robert) Dowling of Jasper, & Roman (Sue) Jewczy of Waterloo, Ontario, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents, loving husband Gordon, daughter Carol Anne, brother Alan and sister Anne. Mom was a woman of strong faith, a sense of community and family responsibility. She loved golf, curling, bridge and other card games and embraced every activity with determination and competitiveness. She loved to travel, visiting Europe including UK, Germany, Amsterdam, Spain and Portugal, and later the Bahamas, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji as well as many shorter trips through Canada and the USA. Though schooled as a legal secretary and employed for some years in the profession, she gave it up when it was time to raise a family, but spent many hours volunteering outside the home at both the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg until she and dad retired in Vernon, where she continued her volunteerism at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carrington for their excellent care of mom for the last number of years as well as the staff at North Okanagan Hospice Society who kept her comfortable in her final days. Also special thanks to Terrie Babiuk of All About You Helping Hands for being there for mom when we could not be.
Divine Liturgy & Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Vernon. Reverend Father Peter Nguyen officiating, with a private interment at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in mom’s memory to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
