Obituary Overview
Stella Bayko
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our Mother and Baba, Stella Helen Bayko on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the age of 85 years from sudden kidney failure.
Stella was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Allen Bayko in 2009, her mother and father Stefania and Michael Kaskow, brothers Eddie and Joseph Kaskow, and sister Gladys Sourisseau, Sister in law Jessie Kaskow and brother in law Adrien Sourisseau.
Stella is survived by her daughters Janice Bradley (Robert), Kimberly Onagi (Ken), and granddaughters Brooklyn, Alana, Kendra, Ava, and only grandson Vincent.
She is also survived by brother in law Dennis Bayko (Lorraine), sisters in law Beverley Tabor, and Linda Kaskow, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Stella was born on November 14, 1932 in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, MB.
As a young girl she battled Tuberculosis when she was 13 years old and spent a year undergoing medical treatment in residence at the St. Boniface Sanatorium. She later went on to contend with other health issues over the years such as melanoma, kidney removal, TIA and major stroke, and most recently emergency hip surgery earlier this year. She was always a fighter and we are forever grateful that we had so many extra years with her because of that spirit.
As a young single lady Mom enjoyed traveling with her friends and also spending time sunbathing at the beach.
She met Al while working at Midwest Diamond Drilling and married and started a family together. They resided in the Westwood area of sunny St. James and raised two daughters, Janice and Kimberly.
Stella and Al enjoyed visiting the racetrack together, taking drives and were happy just being together whether it was spending the day doing yard work or sitting on their porch with family or friends watching a good thunderstorm.
Mom loved her grandchildren and enjoyed listening and talking about all the activities they were involved in such as sports and music lessons and always looked forward to their visits.
A devoted and kind mother with lots of patience, Stella always made sure that her family and friends were cared for and well fed.
Many thanks to Sterling House assisted living where Mom spent 9 years and enjoyed Bingo and Entertainment evenings.
Special thanks to the staff at Charleswood Long Term Care for taking care of Mom and also for their compassionate palliative care during the past week.
Much appreciation to Dr. Reynolds and nurse Jade in the Grace Hospital Emergency department for your kindness and compassionate care at a much needed time.
Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Stella Bayko 2018..
