Obituary of Stanley Boyt
Boyt, Stanley Alvy
Peacefully at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville, on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Stanley Boyt, beloved husband of Nancy (nee Ionson), in his 84th year. Loving father of Barbara (Harvey) and Karen (Craig) Sorge. Grandfather of Jessie and Jordon. Brother of Betty Berlet and Jean and Allen Asher. Stan will be remembered by many nieces and nephews and by Nancy’s children: Ken and Lorrie; Chris; Vicki; Shelby and Brodie; Short and Scoot; Shawn; Renee; and Calvin and Morgan. Predeceased by his parents Alvy and Nellie Boyt and his sister Marjorie (the late Delbert Hopkins and his brother-in-law Delbert Hopkins. Stan’s adventures started growing up on the shores of Lake Erie on a farm West of Dunnville. At 19 years old, Stan became a factory worker for the Dominion Fabrics Company. Factory work was not for Stan – a new opportunity arose and he was hired by Roy Manley on his drilling rig. This began a life-long career in the gas industry. In 1958, he started with the McMaster Drillers from Caledonia, which took him to Quebec. At 23 years old, he took a job with P.L. JAckson from Dunville as a driller and this is where life took him down another path as owner of Wellandport Gas Company. Stan’s qualifications are impressive, with supporting certificates for Pipe Line Gas Inspector, Fusion Certificate, St. John’s Ambulance Certificate 1962, Ministry of Natural Resources – Examiner Class V, a Stationery Engineer Diploma from Cayuga Secondary School in 1971 and he held a TSSA Cerrtificate (Technical, Safety and Standards Act) and had just renewed his number – one of the earliest issued. He retired in 2002 when he sold his business to Enbridge Gas. Stan was one of the founding members of the drilling rig restoration project in Rainham Centre and proudly participated in teaching, fundraising and rig days. Stan’s interests ranged from bee keeping to collecting anything John Deere – all proudly displayed. He loved his collections of pin wheel crystal and antique clocks. He enjoyed small engines – especially his Monarch that was built in Dunnville in 1911. Stan was a proud man, with a quiet presence who enjoyed life as it came his way.
