Obituary of Sister Mary Jean Klatt
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London Neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sister Mary Jean Klatt at the Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph at 485 Windermere Road in London. Sister died on Thursday, March 29, 2018 accompanied on the last part of her journey by the Sisters along with Care Centre Staff.
Sister Mary Jean, (Doris Rita) Klatt was born in Pembroke, Ontario, on September 5, 1921 and joined the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1954. She is remembered with affection by all her CSJ Sisters as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by her mother, Marcella Hanneman, father Alexander Klatt, her sisters Anna May Patterson (Abraham), Estelle Irving (Alexander), Vera Bechard, Helen Antonucci (Joseph), and Lois Antonucci (John) and brothers, Francis (Claire), Arthur (Laura), Emmett (Clarice), and Rev. Thomas, G.
Sister Mary Jean spent many years as a surgical nurse and operating room supervisor in Kirkland Lake, and in St. Joseph’s Hospitals in London, Sarnia and Chatham. After retiring from nursing, she started St. Joseph’s Hospitality Centre (soup kitchen) in London, in 1983, which continues to serve meals to this day. A true, no-nonsense kind of person, Sister Mary Jean tended any practical necessity with precision and a steady hand. She had a very down to earth wisdom, delightful wit and sense of humour as well as an artistic flair. After moving to the Sister’s residence, she continued to serve the local needs in various ways.
All services will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 485 Windermere Road. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, 2:30 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 -8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 11:00 am, with Father Richard Charrette presiding. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
