Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Ethel Mae Hamel passed away at the age of 93 at Providence Centre, Edmonton, on November 20, 2018. Sister Ethel Mae was born in Krupp, Saskatchewan, in 1925 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1962 in Calgary, Alberta. She served the people of western Canada in various ministries and was known and loved for her gentleness. Sister Ethel Maes loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence, her brothers Edouard, Louis and his wife Yvonne, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Emma Edouardina Hamel and eight siblings. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Ethel Mae by the infirmary staff at Providence Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Prayers will be held at Providence Centre on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. and Reverend Gracjan Burkiciak will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street NW, Edmonton. Burial will follow in the Sisters of Providence Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
