Sister Elizabeth Ann « Sister Mary Rachel » Kinsella gsic
Sister Elizabeth Ann Kinsella (Sister Mary Rachel), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON, died in Pembroke on the 15th day of June, 2018, in the 71st year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, her sister Mary (Mimi) Pollock, her brother, John Bernard (Kathleen), nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by parents, James Bernard and Beatrice (Burnett), her sisters, Sister Bernadette Kinsella g.s.i.c., Margaret (Peggy) O’Neill and brother, William James. Sister Elizabeth Ann was born in Ottawa on November 17, 1928. She entered the Community on September 9, 1947, pronouncing her final vows on August 5, 1952. A teacher by profession, she taught in Midland, Ottawa, Port Credit, Whitby, Pembroke and Eganville. Other areas of service included support work and social services for needy families and other groups in the Ottawa area. In 1985, she founded ‘Youville Centre’, a home for unwed mothers and their children, the first program in Canada to address the needs for education, child care, housing and support services for the unwed mother and child. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke, ON: Tuesday, June 19th from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery. Arrangements in care of the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke.
