Obituary of Sipke Van Viegen
VAN VIEGEN- Sipke. 1927 – 2018.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sipke Van Viegen at Northland Pointe on August 14th, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Sipke was a loving wife, mother, Oma and great Oma and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three daughters, Gijse Van Viegen (Netherlands), Jane Spriegel (Craig) and Geraldine (Deana) Davies as well as her daughter in law Theresa Van Viegen. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Mark Van Viegen (Kristen), Eric Van Viegen (Melissa), Nicole Alexander (Scott), Marty Parr (Lindsey), Mike Werneiwski (Didi), Jacqueline Davies, Rose Davies and Conrad Davies (Teighan). She is also survived by her six great grandchildren, Mason, Miles, Zachary, Ryan, Trenton and Maddox. She is also survived by her twin brothers in the Netherlands, Ad Verwoert (Bep) and Piet Verwoert (Fini) and brother in laws Coen Van Viegen and Cuun Van Viegen (Jo) as well as many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert Van Viegen (1999) and her son Conrad Van Viegen (2006). She was also predeceased by her sisters and brother in laws of the Netherlands, Henny and Kees Van Wijk, Annie and Kees Budding, Christian and Martje Verwoert as well as her brother in law and sister in laws, Bart Van Viegen (Jans) and Annie Van Viegen. Sipke immigrated to Canada in 1951 with her husband Gilbert and daughter Gijse. She was a loving homemaker and worked alongside her husband at Van Viegen Construction and Humberstone Builders Supplies. She volunteered for Community Living Nursery School in Port Colborne and Meals on Wheels, Sipke was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Colborne where she had many friends and enjoyed the Supper Eight Group. Family was most important to Sipke and she lovingly looked after all her children and grandchildren. She was always kind and sweet and did her best to make everyone’s life better. Special thanks to all the staff of Northland Pointe who went above and beyond in their outstanding care of Sipke in her last years and for the support you provided our family in her last weeks. A private family service will take place. Arrangements entrusted to DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne.
