Obituary of Silvana Montopoli (nee D’Intino)
Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Northland Pointe on November 27, 2018 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of 65 years to Mario. Loving mother of Tino (Chris), Rita (Tony) and Piero (Cathy). Cherished nonna of Reanna (Mike), Leta, Julia (Rick), Danielle, Erica, Matthew and Lauren. Great grandma of Siena and Sawyer. She will be missed by her sisters in law Rita D’Intino (late Angelo), Nunziatina D’Intino (late Flaviano), Maria Oliva (late Vinicio) and brother in law Nino and Velia Montopoli. Survived by many nieces and nephews in Italy and USA. Predeceased by her brother Mario (Lucietta) and sister Maria (Nicola).
Silvana was born in Torre de Passeri in Abruzzo, Italy on September 18, 1933. She came to Port Colborne as a young bride in 1953. She raised three children and then decided to open a small Italian grocery store – Montopoli Grocery & Fish Market. Silvana was a hardworking lady and a very smart business woman. She was an excellent cook and nothing made her happier than to sit down with her family and friends to enjoy a wonderful meal. She was proud past president of the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre where she was very involved with many social activities, and as well she was a significant contributor in the community.
The family extends sincere thanks to the entire staff of Northland Pointe for their care and compassion.
Silvana’s family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Thursday from 2 – 4 & 7 –9 p.m. Vigil will be held at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter Walton as celebrant. Rite of Committal with Entombment will follow at Pleasantview Mausoleum, Thorold. If so desired, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Red Cross.
