Winter, Sidney J. F. « Danny »
Age 86 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on June 25th at the QEII Halifax Infirmary.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys; daughter, Anne Duggan; son, Peter (Dawn), and grandsons Matthew Duggan and Noah Winter; Sister, Freda Hobbs.
Predeceased by his father, George and his mother, Kate; brother, George; and sister, Rose.
Danny grew up in London, England. He joined the British Navy at age 18 and was a submariner for 12 years until he met Gladys while stationed in Halifax. After retiring from the navy, he married Gladys, converted to Catholicism and became Canadian. They were married for 56 years. He was proud of his British heritage but also very proud to be Canadian.
Danny retired at age 60 from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography where he worked for 28 years. He believed education was very important, and after retirement, graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
He loved his children and grandsons very much and was a very dedicated family man. More than anything, he adored his wife Gladys.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, June 29 in Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, 6476 Bayers Rd, Halifax, with a reception to follow, officiated by Father Francesco Pirisi. Interment will take place in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd, Middle Sackville.
