Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18th, 2018, at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Charles Short. Loving mother of Sandra Detering and her husband Paul Templeton and mother-in-law of Dianne Short. Cherished grandmother of Leanne (Don), Alechia and Joel and great-grandmother of Alex, Kalib, Sydney and Simon. Dearly missed by her best friend of nearly 95 years, Doris Mitchell. Predeceased by her son, Art Short and her brother, Frank Kaar. She will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends. Dorothy was a woman who was full of life. As she recently said, “I’m 97 years old and lived a full life, if you have anything to say, say it now.” She enjoyed the simple things and didn’t need much to make her happy. Playing cards with her husband Charlie and their numerous friends and family, having a few drinks and telling stories made her smile and laugh. In spite of themselves, she raised two kids who learned a lot from her and loved her dearly. She was overjoyed at the arrival of each grandchild and tickled pink to have lived long enough to get to know her great-grandchildren. Dorothy was an amazing person, a force of nature and a corker! She now joins her husband, son, family and friends for another round of cards and a laugh or two. She will be missed. Visitation will be held on Monday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where the funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dorothy are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Program or Sleeping Children Around the World.
