OBITUARY
Shirley Margaret Christie
March 2, 1929 – December 1, 2018
Shirley Margaret Christie passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 89 years.
Arthur Edward and Leone Mae Best welcomed Shirley Margaret into their lives on Saturday, March 2, 1929. Shirley was born in the family farm home near Khedive, Saskatchewan a healthy 10 pounds. Shirley spent her 15th and 16th years hospitalized with tuberculosis. Her parents and sister, Nona Louise would visit from their home in Mossback, Saskatchewan. Once back at home her sister Nona and her piano were her best friends. Nona was instrumental in helping Shirley regain her strength both physically and emotionally.
Shirley graduated from High school in 1946 with honours. The family moved to Calgary where Shirley worked for a fur trading company, then continued her education earning a Certificate at Calgary Business College. She continued to play piano and was also a talented artist. Like her mother, she enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes.
With her first husband, David William Davies, she welcomed five beautiful girls. Diane, Kathie, Cheryl, Teddy and Lana. Once the kids were all in school, she went on to become a dental assistant and then dental office manager for 25 years. She was active in the Calgary Dental Assistants Association for many years.
Shirley married for the second time in 1996. She and Ray Christie moved to Cochrane, Alberta not long afterwards. They were a happy couple and enjoyed sharing in the lives of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together.
Shirley and Ray enjoyed travel, often with family. Shirley’s list of favourite places included Hawaii, Alaska and even Wales and England.
Shirley remained the centre of her loving family for her entire life. She was dearly loved and will be missed.
