Shirley was born the only child of Bessie and Floyd Coons in Cardinal Ontario. As a young woman, Shirley left home and entered nursing school at Kingston General Hospital. Shirley moved west to Calgary and took a nursing position at the Calgary General Hospital. Shirley worked there for many years, eventually becoming a head nurse on unit 4North.

Having never married, her dear friend Lona Moors-Oliemans and her family became an important part of Shirley’s life. Shirley was “Aunt” to many of her younger cousins and was always there providing smiles, hugs and her wonderful sense of humor.
Shirley enjoyed many family events with Donna (Steve) Sorrell, Doug (Joanne) Brennan and Derek (Tarnia) Wallace. She was affectionately called “Nana Shirley” by Dawson, Preston and Adelia Wallace.
Shirley is survived by many cousins, including Ray Burns (Cornwall, ON); Carl (Valerie) Coons (Belleville, ON); and Rhonda (Ed) St. Louis (Cardinal, ON).
She was predeceased by cousins Gerald (Doreen) Brennan and Clayton (Ann) Coons. Shirley was loved by her friends and family, who are dearly missing her.
