Grandy, Samuel Walters, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Garnish, NL, he was the son of the late George Morgan and Anne Elizabeth (Francis) Grandy. He will be missed by his children, Kathy (Bill) Bell, George (Kathy) Grandy, Beth (Phillip) Covey, Tim (Susan) Grandy, Maureen (Barry) Wood, and Chris (Tim) Morash, grandchildren Matthew, Ashley, Lindsay, Suzanne, Julie, Scott, Alex, Beth, Sami-Jo, Sam, Annie, Ben and great grandchildren, Dominic, Keegan, Jake, Emmitt, Marissa, Braxton, Myah, Theo, and Teagan. He is survived by his brother; Melvin, and predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Elaine (Murphy); siblings Eleanor, Georgina, Clyde, Harold and William (infancy) and son in-law, Mike Hall. Sam left Newfoundland at an early age and travelled to NS where he started working at the Halifax Shipyards. From there he went to the Waterfront where he was a longshoreman with Local 269 for over 30 years until his retirement. Many of his happiest times were spent on his boat, the ‘Miss Leary’s Cove’; lobster fishing in the winters and cruising in the summers with Elaine and friends. Sam’s love of fishing started in a small rowboat in Kiley’s Cove, and continued for the next 60 years. Sam spent many years as a part of the Beagle Club where he established his own breed, “Dover Hill”. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. The family would like to thank VON and Closing The Gap with special thanks to Kyle. Service to be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00am in Shad Bay at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3709 Prospect Road followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Thomas Cemetery, or the charity of your choice. Family and faith were very important to Dad and he converted to Catholicism so that he could rest in peace beside Mom. Love you, Dad.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Samuel Walters Grandy (July 27 1932 February 27 2018).source
