Obituary of Ruth Utter
UTTER, Ruth Elaine
With profound sorrow, but hearts filled with love and joyful memories, we announce the passing of Ruth Elaine (Pembleton) Utter, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, surrounded by her adoring family. Beloved wife of 55 years of David, and cherished mother of Deborah (Murray Cook) and Cheryl (Michael Bailey). Ruthie was the fiercely proud grandmother of Daniel, Spencer, Jennifer and Ashley. Predeceased by her parents, Norman and Norma Pembleton, and parents-in-law Murray and Marie Utter and her sisters Lois (Bud) Kells, Marjorie (Harley) Cornish and Eva Atkinson, brothers Harry Pembleton and Norman Pembleton and brothers-in-law Bob Arbuckle, Dave Rogers and John Utter. Ruthie leaves behind sisters Barbara Arbuckle and Mary Rogers, brothers Charles (Carol) Pembleton and John (Liza) Pembleton, Howard Atkinson, sisters-and-brothers-in-law and many loved nieces and nephews. In Ruthie’s world, “family” extended far past blood relations, and she leaves behind a lot of honourary loved ones. Our family is beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received in these last few difficult weeks, and for the incredible care and compassion of the staff at Hamilton General Hospital, particularly Dr. Rapanos and the Vascular Team, the nurses of 4W and the doctors and nurses of ICU South. Cremation has taken place. Please join us in celebrating Ruthie’s life at Stoney Creek United Church on Friday, March 9, 2018. There will be a brief service of remembrance in the Chapel, at 1 p.m. Ruthie’s legacy is one of immeasurable love and we ask you to honour her memory by giving an extra “I love you” to your family and friends, by reaching out to someone you might have lost touch with, and to share a kind word and some compassion with a stranger in need.
