MacArthur, Ruth U. – Age 93 of Truro; It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth MacArthur on March 13, 2018 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care home, Truro. Ruth was the daughter of the late T.G. and Hilda (Knickle) Taylor and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ruth was brought up in Truro and lived in Truro most of her life. She was a Life Member of the Truro Gyrette Club, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, N.S. and a long-time member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro. Ruth was a loving and involved mother to her two sons. Whatever her boys were involved in, whether it be showing horses or racing cars, Ruth was there to lend a hand. She designed and sewed outfits to be worn in Show Classes, helped with the grooming of the horses, helped clean and prepare the race car, and always made sure everyone had something to eat or drink. Mum could ALWAYS be counted on to do whatever she could do to help, whether it be baking cookies to keep everyone’s energy up or working as Registrar for the corner marshals in the early days of Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie with her sons. Ruth loved sewing and quilting and made her own clothes and clothes for her daughters-in-law and grandchildren. She made amazing quilts, using ideas from nature to make special scenes and finishing them with needle point and embroidery, then applying every stitch by hand. Ruth is survived by her two sons, three grandsons and one great grandson; son, Jim MacArthur and wife, Lyn (Patriquin), Hilden, N.S., and their children, Taylor MacArthur and wife, Stephanie (Harvey) and their son, Nicolas MacArthur, of Truro; JR MacArthur and Fiance, Catherine Basar, Montreal, QC; son, John MacArthur and wife, Jill (Goodman) and their son, Ayrton MacArthur, Victoria, B.C.; three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Stewart MacArthur; infant granddaughter, Lily; her three brothers, Gordon O. Taylor, Cyril C. Taylor and Royce W. Taylor; two sisters, Noma E. Taylor-Wigglesworth and Joyce Taylor-Bonner; she is also predeceased by special daughter-in-law, Donna Mills. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service to celebrate Ruth’s life at 11:30 a.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro, Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Ruth’s memory to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
