Ruth Lorraine Steves
1925-2018
Peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018, in the
compassionate care of the staff of Prince Edward Home in
Charlottetown, at the age of 93.
Ruth will live on in the hearts of her daughter
and son-in-law, Julie and Stephen Alford of Charlottetown; son John
Steves (late Patricia Anderson) of Winnipeg; granddaughters Megan
Alford (Jesse Waldman) of Vancouver and Lindsay Choo (Raymond) of
Burnaby; dear friends Kathy and Gilmour Glencross of Fredericton;
brother Gordon Eagles of Riverglade; sisters-in-law Geraldine Eagles
of Sus and Beulah Eagles of Kelowna.
She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and
nephews, whose visits brought her pride and joy, and by special
friends and neighbours, particularly those in Moose Jaw, Moncton and
Riverview.
Predeceased by her husband of forty-four years,
William Harold Steves of Riverview, NB.
In addition to her parents Ella (Taylor) and Edgar
Eagles, Ruth was also predeceased by infant sister Bertha Eagles of
Monteagle, sister Frances Eagles of Halifax; sister Audrey Loftus and
her husband Alfred of Moncton; brothers Basil Eagles and his wife Edna
of Salisbury, Lawrence Eagles and his wife Annie of Thunder Bay,
Nelson Eagles of Kelowna, Gesner Eagles and his wife Eileen of
Salisbury, and Ernest Eagles of Sus; brothers-in-law Paul Steves of
Chilliwack, Gerald Steves and his wife Lorraine of Ajax; nephews
Junior Eagles, Merrill Eagles, Richard Powers; and nieces Lois Hicks,
Elaine Kerr, Doreen Burnham and Susan Surrette.
Ruth was born in Monteagle, New Brunswick, in
1925. After graduating from high school in Salisbury, Ruth entered
Moncton Hospital Training School and graduated with her RN in 1946.
She was an excellent golfer, curler and skier, as well as a beautiful
gardener. She was also an avid reader and life-long learner, studying
towards a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University in her
mid-seventies. She enjoyed many creative pursuits including senior
choir, quilting, painting and poetry.
Ruth will be remembered as a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, aunt, neighbour and friend. She lived her life with
gratitude and faith, and leaves a legacy of kindness and
generosity.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff
of Prince Edward Home, especially Lupin Valley household, for their
exceptional care; special thanks also to the staff of Brecken House,
Pat and the Elephant, PEI Home Care, Dr. Randy MacKinnon, Dr. Rob
Hennessey and Dr. Guy Boswall. Julie extends a special thank you to
Kathy Glencross, Valerie Herring-MacBeath, Cathy McGuirk, Shelley
Mokler-Clark and her colleagues at Innovation PEI for their constant
support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Belvedere
Funeral Home in Charlottetown. The Memorial Service will be held at
Salisbury Funeral Home, Salisbury, NB on Wednesday, July 25th at 11 am
with Rev. Bill Parks officiating. No visitation by family request.
Interment at Alderwood Cemetery, Riverview.
