Reid, Ruth Helen – 84 of Tatamagouche, passed away November 8, 2018 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Londonderry, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (McLean) Trites. Ruth graduated from the Halifax Children’s Hospital in 1955 and worked as a pediatric nurse in Toronto, London and Kirkland in Ontario and eventually, Truro. Following retirement, she moved to Inuvik, NWT to be closer to her family where she cared for her grandchildren and other children in the community. Later, she moved to Tatamagouche where she was involved in the community with the Brule Community Centre, UCW and the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth loved to play bingo and cards and played many card games with her friend and neighbor Sheila MacKinnon who was a great help to Ruth both at home and in her final days in hospital. Ruth’s family would like to thank Dr. Dan MacDonald and the nursing staff at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for all the wonderful care given to Ruth during her stay there. Surviving are her son, David (Deborah) and his children, Graeme and Taylor, all of Hay River, NT; brother, Steven Trites, Bible Hill; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Irvan R. Reid; brother, Robert Trites; sisters, Leone Swan and Betty Coupar. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17 in Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche, Rev. Penny Nelson officiating. Interment at a later date in Harmony Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to the IWK Foundation, Sharon United Church or the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated.
