Roy J. Melanson passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Fredericton Hospice House
at the age of 82. Born in Sackville, NB, he was the eldest
son of the late Jude and Lydia (Comeau)
Melanson.
Roy is survived by his wife,
Jane (Brewer) Melanson; son, Brent (Diane) Melanson of Fredericton;
granddaughters Jessica Melanson, Megan Melanson both of Fredericton;
grandson Adam Melanson of Kingston Ontario; brothers Lawrence
(Brenda), Fred (Gayle); sister Betty Bonnevie of Fredericton and
several nieces and nephews.
A long-standing parishioner
of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Roy was a member of
sessions and sang tenor in the church choir. Roy was employed at the
Daily Gleaner for 42 years. He was president of the local union and he
later became Production Manager. He was a talented musician
who began performing piano at local dances at the age of 12. Roy
played stand-up bass with the Earl Mitton band and later played piano
for the River Valley Fiddlers, who often performed for local nursing
homes. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Fredericton
Golf Club.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral service will be held Monday, August 20th, 2018 at 11:00 am
at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Fredericton with Rev. Doug
Blaikie officiating. The service will be followed by a
reception at the church and interment at the Hawkins Corner Cemetery
in Millville NB.
For those who wish, memorial
contributions in memory of Roy may be made to Hospice Fredericton for
their wonderful care. The family is also thankful to the Oromocto
Hospital for the impressive service of its
staff.
