Roy Arbuckle Jardine
June 20, 1930 – March 13, 2018
Roy Arbuckle Jardine, CD passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Center on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
Roy was born in Penticton, BC on June 20, 1930 and grew up on the family farm in Oliver, BC. He joined the Army at an early age and served in Korea with « B » Squadron, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). On return to Canada he continued to serve with the Regiment, until his retirement. Roy stayed active with the Regiment, making many trips to Edmonton to attend Regimental activities. « Once a Strathcona always a Strathcona »
After retirement from the Army, Roy involved himself in many activities. He loved to garden and take care of his trees.

Roy served as a Commanding Officer of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Army Cadet Corps #1292. Roy was Past President of the Army Cadet League of Canada, Alberta.
Roy enjoyed many years at the Al Azhar Mounted Patrol. He loved working around the property doing any job that needed to be done. The Patrol ground’s was his « home-away-from-home ». When Roy was unable to ride his trusty steed « Monty » due to health reasons, he volunteered for the past ten years to play the music for their Musical Ride. He served as President of the Mounted Patrol in 1998.
Roy was a member of Lodge Renfrew #135, Alberta Chapter No. 1 RAM, Scottish Rite Valley of Calgary and Cyprus Preceptory No. 33.
He was also a member of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Regimental Association, the Royal United Services Institute, and at the time of his passing he was serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Korea Veterans Association Unit 72 Calgary.
Roy is survived by his wife Inez; his son David; grandsons, Jeremy Jardine, Christopher Hirst, and Preston Hirst; three great grandchildren; sister Diane Lindsay of Oliver, BC as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Nan Jardine; brother Charles Jardine; his daughter Cindy Jardine and his brother-in-law Dave Lindsay.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at a later date.
