Rosemary died peacefully surrounded by family on August 23, 2018. The eldest child of Stanley and Mae Doyle, she was born in Halifax on September 10, 1944. She attended Mount Saint Vincent Academy, Halifax West and the Halifax Vocational High School.
Rosemary enjoyed working, and started her career with MacLeod’s Lawn Equipment in Rockingham. From there, she moved into purchasing at Sears in the West End Mall. She stepped away from working in 1984 to stay at home with her children and became an active volunteer in the Lake Echo community. She spent many hours at Bell Park Academic Centre and Orenda Canoe Club, and also worked part-time at Busy Bee Day Care. Rosemary returned to full-time work in the late nineties, first delivering mail as a contractor with Canada Post. She then became a Commissionaire, spending the majority of her career stationed at the Canadian Coast Guard base in Dartmouth.
Rosemary enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, crafting, gardening and fine jewellery. She will be remembered by family and friends as a compassionate listener, whose advice often started with, “My mother used to say…”
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles; son, Shawn (Kimberly); and daughter, Shannon. She was predeceased by her mother, father and brother, John.
The family would like to thank Rosemary’s care team at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home for their kindness and care during her time there.
Visitation from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 in Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral service Thursday, August 30 at 10 a.m., also at Cruikshank’s. Reception to follow.
Guests are encouraged to wear their best jewellery and favourite colour in honour of Rosemary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK Foundation or your charity of choice.
