Rosalie Kitz
Rosalie (nee Shyminsky) passed away peacefully on November 10, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Home in Saskatoon. She was born on July 1, 1931 on the family farm near Petlura MB. She married Joseph Kitz on July 15, 1950, in Fort William ON. He passed away on August 24 of this year. She was also predeceased by her father, Marion (1934); mother Jeanette (1990); brothers Joseph and Frank; sisters Lena and Marie.
Rosalie attended Pozir School for grade school and went to high school in Dauphin MB. In 1948 she moved to Fort William (now Thunder Bay) to train as a Certified Nursing Assistant at McKellar General Hospital and worked there until 1955. Son, Gregory was born in 1956. They moved to Petlura MB to run the general store in 1957. Son, Randall was born in nearby Grandview MB in 1958. In 1959 they moved to Sudbury ON. She worked at the Sudbury General Hospital until moving to Yorkton SK in 1965. Son, Jeffery was born there in 1966. They came to Saskatoon in 1967, where she worked at St. Paul’s Hospital until 1977. She finished her nursing career at Sherbrooke Nursing Home from 1979 to 1988. She enjoyed her years of nursing and helping others.
Rosalie and Joe became parishioners at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in 1967. Rosalie was a 50-year member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada (UCWLC), serving as Branch President, on the Eparchial Executive, and as Eparchial President. She sat on the Board of Trustees of the Musée Ukraina Museum, and served as president of the St. Joseph’s Home Auxiliary, Saints. Peter & Paul Seniors Association, and the Confraternity of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. She was also Chair of the church’s Sanctuary Committee for 16 years. Together with Joe, she was instrumental in the founding of the Boyan Ukrainian Dance Group in 1971.
She loved to travel. From coast to coast in Canada, California, Hawaii, a cruise of the Caribbean, Yugoslavia, and France. The highlight of her life (besides her 3 sons) was a trip to the Holy Land and Rome in 1985.
She is survived by her sons, Greg (Brenda), Randy and Jeff; sisters-in-law Iris Kitz and Carol Shyminsky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., both at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1202 11th Street East, Saskatoon, SK. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the sisters and staff of St. Joseph’s Home for the compassionate care they gave her. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Musée Ukraina Museum.
She lived her life in service to others.
