It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosalie Power after a courageous four and a half year battle with cancer. Predeceased by her first husband Jerome, her parents Chesley and Victoria (Queen) Lynch, her two brothers Percival and Theadore and her brother-in-law Clyde. Survived by her loving spouse of thirty years James Gill, her son Jason Power (Tara) and family, and especially her most loved granddaughter Hailey and her loving stepdaughter Aasha Gill, Sisters; Lorraine Geiger (Ken), Nina Stickland (Fred) and Doreen Skinner, Brothers; Wallace (Linda) Winfred (Marilyn), Reginald (Charmaine) and Colin (Judy) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosalie will be sadly missed by her many friends in Yellowknife, Newfoundland & Labrador, Regina Sask and Vancouver Island B.C.
Born in St John’s NL Rosalie moved to Yellowknife NWT where she worked for both the Territorial and Municipal Governments for well over twenty nine years. She received many awards for her dedication and commitment to her community both in Yellowknife and the Cowichan Region on Vancouver Island. One of her most treasured awards was that of the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002; she was a proud member of the Shawnigan Cobble Hill Farmers’ Institute and Agricultural Society, Cowichan Green Community and her passion and love was their Gill Power Hobby Farm. She also took great pride in hosting visitors from around the world at their Yellowknife B & B.
Her broad range of volunteer work and life career earned her a variety of awards which included; recognition by NWT as outstanding volunteer in 2003, recognition of service by the Government of NWT, City of Yellowknife for long service award in 2003, Chairperson of Block Parent Program and dedicated volunteer service with E Division of the RCMP. She also received recognition for serving on the committee organizing the commissioning of the HMCS Yellowknife in 1998 (Kingston-class coastal defence vessel that has served in the Canadian Forces since 1998).
The family deeply appreciates the care and compassion of Dr. Valorie Masuda, Dr Lesley Hartford, Duncan Regional Hospital staff, Community Health Nurses, Home care workers and Reverend John Steele of St John’s Anglican Church Cobble Hill. Special appreciation goes to Rosalie’s sisters Doreen and Nina for their unselfish care, kindness and compassion during her illness.
A service will be held at St John’s Anglican Church Cobble Hill on Saturday July 7 at 2 P.M., in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
