Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Spaan, Rosabelle (Guay)
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of
Rosabelle Spaan on October 28, 2018, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of
the late Joachim (Joe) Spaan (2009) for 56 years. Loving mother of Warren
(Deidre), Pearl Peritalo (the late Pekka), Glenn (Mary), William (Helen),
Robert (Marita) and Allan (Elizabeth). Grandma will be sadly missed by her 12
grandchildren Robert (Lynne), Jennifer (Dylan Roth), Ailene (Paul Fournier),
Natalie (Thomas Willoughby), Duncan, Madeline, Adele, Nathan, Jacob, Samantha,
Alyssa, Kaitlyn, and her great-grandchildren Davis, Henri, Harley, Arden,
Alexis, and Erik. She will be fondly remembered by Kathleen (Avron), Mikolaj
(Aggy), and Aurora. Rosabelle passed away peacefully at The Meadows of Dorchester
(Niagara Falls) with her loving family at her side.
Rosabelle was born in Timmins, Ontario before moving to
Windsor and then later to Niagara Falls, Ontario with her mother, sister
Claudette, and grandparents where her family operated a tourist home. In 1950,
at a YMCA dance, she met and then fell in love with her husband-to-be and
life-long dance partner, Joe. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church in
Niagara Falls on April 18, 1953, and raised their family of six children in St.
Catharines. Mom loved to travel and was fortunate to begin travelling from an
early age, visiting several destinations including Cuba, Florida, South
Carolina, Canada (from coast to coast), and numerous countries throughout
Europe and the UK. She was always up for a road-trip and enjoyed many family
vacations to Myrtle Beach as well as summer camping and cottage rentals with
her husband Joe and the kids. She especially loved travelling with Joe to visit
his family in The Netherlands. Rosabelle was an active and long-standing member
of the Catholic Women’s League for over 40 years.
Rosabelle’s family extends their warmest appreciation to the
nurses, doctors, PSWs, and other staff of The Meadows of Dorchester for the
compassionate care provided to her over the past three years, and especially
near the end where she was lovingly supported and assisted in living out her
final days with dignity in a caring environment. The family will receive
friends at the Butler Funeral Home, Niagara Street Chapel, 424 Niagara St, St.
Catharines on Wednesday, October 31 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, vigil prayers at 3
pm. Funeral mass to be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 316
Queenston St, St. Catharines on Thursday, November 1st at 10:30 am. Cremation
to follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations to The Meadows of Dorchester
to be used to provide special comforts and equipment for the residents, or to
St. Thomas Aquinas Church, St. Catharines would be appreciated. Online
condolences may be made at www.butlerniagara.ca
