Ronald David McDonald, 69
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ronald “Mikker” David McDonald, announce his passing at Breton Ability Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia on Thursday, October 18, 2018.
Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Clarence “Mac” and Audrey (Penney) McDonald.
Ron had a passion for technology and anything electrical. He always had the latest gadgets and shared them with all his family and friends. He grew up surrounded by a loving, supportive family but as years passed, he struggled with mental illness. Ron spent many decades without a home; living on beaches in Mexico, shelters in Boston, and just about anywhere in between and beyond. As he told these stories with his family and friends, it was clear that he survived because of his knowledge of technology. He was building laptops long before laptops were common. Eventually Ron found the solace he needed and his final years were filled with happiness. His infectious laugh will be greatly missed by his family and his friends at Breton Ability Centre.
Survived by sister in law, Cheryl (Bob) Hatt and nephew Malcolm (Jill) of White Point; niece Becky of Liverpool;and great-nieces Autumn, Flora and Brooke.
Predeceased by paternal grandparents Malcolm and Rebecca (MacEachern) of Port Hawksbury; maternal grandparents Joe Penney of Florida and Alma (Colp) Penney of Liverpool; brother Allan of White Point; and special great-aunt Doris (Penney) Kay.
Cremation has taken place.
Celebration of life for Ron will be held on Saturday November 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at The SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations in Ron’s memory can be made to Breton Ability Centre or Mental Health Foundation of NS.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Ronald Mikker David McDonald October 18 2018..
