Ronald Elliott Campbell
1926-2018
The death of Ron Campbell (1926 – 2018), Regent Hall,
Shannex, Fredericton, NB occurred on January 18, 2018, in Palliative
Care at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital.
Ron was born in Sackville, NB as the oldest son of the late
Harold & Peggy Campbell. He was predeceased by a brother
Robert (1961); an infant son William Irving Campbell (1952); his wife
Pat Campbell (2013), after 63 years of Marriage; and his
sisters-in-law, Millicent and Betty Campbell.
He is survived by son Eric (Janice) of Fredericton, NB;
daughter Carol Williamson (Dene) of Stratford, PEI; two grandsons,
Sean Campbell of Fredericton, NB and Scott Williamson (Julie); a great
grand-daughter Elle; and a great grand-son Hawksley, of Fort
McMurray, AB. Ron is also survived by brothers Larry of Charlottetown,
PEI and Keith of Saint John, NB; nephews Richard (Jacinta) and Scott
(Bev); great nephews Brent (Ambyr), Craig; great niece Jennie; and
Brent and Ambyr’s twins, Brielle and Mylah, all from
Charlottetown.
Ron graduated from Sackville High School, in 1943, followed
by a B.Sc. from Mount Allison University in 1947, and a Bachelor Civil
Engineering, in 1949. Over the years, Ron has resided with his wife
and family in Saint John, Fredericton North and South, Kelly Creek,
and New Maryland.
Following 10 years of training and work as an engineer
(equipment sales and construction projects), in 1960, Ron incorporated
Atlantic Building Contractors Ltd. as a pioneer member of a group of
cross Canada Contractors created to service the commercial and
industrial building field with the use of pre-engineered steel
building systems. In 1982, an associated firm — Prospect
Contractors Ltd. — was also created to service clients over
a wider area. These firms have subsequently been sold and passed over
to employees.
Ron enjoyed travelling, boating, snowmobiling, and his
family. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the Rotary Club of
Fredericton, the Fredericton Golden Club, Hiram Lodge, and the
Association of Professional Engineers of the Province of New Brunswick
(life member 1993). He participated in university varsity rugby, track
& field, and basketball and held a life-long interest in these
and other activities within the community.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Paul Kerr
and staff for decades of devoted medical service and for the wonderful
care of the many health care professionals at the Chalmers Hospital
and the Saint John Regional. His care giver, Ruth Lynch, holds a
special place in our hearts.
A service will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home,
in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, with a private interment at the
Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredericton, NB, in the spring. In lieu of
flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Camp Rotary, The Dr.
Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation, or charity of
choice.
