It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Roger
Allan « Butch » Reid on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the Cape
Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born April
27, 1939, in Sydney, Roger was the son of the late John
« Jack » and Eileen (Goodale) Reid.
In 1967, Roger became a Chartered Accountant, working for
Doane Raymond, which eventually became Grant Thornton, for over 30
years. He would eventually become a senior partner with Grant
Thornton, Sydney, retiring in 1994, at the age of 55. Roger thoroughly
enjoyed retirement and was very busy with his many hobbies. Pauline
and he enjoyed many activities such as, hiking, cross country and
downhill skiing, as well as golfing and skating. And, he loved
spending time in the yard. Roger and Pauline also had many wonderful
trips to Florida with their many great friends. In his earlier years,
he loved to curl and was an active member of the Rotary Club.
From the time he was a child, Roger loved the
outdoors and often told stories of his hunting and fishing trips,
whether they be on the Margaree, in Gabarus, the Cape Breton
Highlands, Newfoundland or New Brunswick. And, he was often, not
always, but often, difficult to beat when playing cards.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Pauline
(Mroz) Reid; daughter, Donna-Lee Fredericks (Kevin), Dartmouth;
stepsons, David (Kate) Mroz, Bedford and Robbie Mroz, Halifax; sister,
Arlene (Ross) Anderson, Westmount; brothers, Philip (Ann), Bedford,
Gordon, Eastern Passage, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers,
Ronald « Ronnie » and Jack.
There
will be no visitation. A family interment will take place at a later
date.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your
choice.
