Roger was born January 30, 1940 at home in Bruxelles, Manitoba. He attended Oak Hill School. He moved with his family to a dairy farm in St. Claude in 1956. He took a Diesel Mechanics course in Toronto, Ontario. In the fall of 1959, he moved with his parents to St. Boniface and worked at St. Boniface Canada Packers, Motor Parts rebuilding motors, Benjamin Construction and De Gagné Motor-Sobering Electric & Garage. He married Renée-Marie (Nénette) née Perchotte on December 27, 1960, and bought a farm at the end of May 1961 south of St. Claude where they raised their five children.
One of the passions in his life was playing the piano and accordion. He first started to play at the age of seven with his Dad’s music bands (Godard Music Band). For years he played with many different music bands all over the province, almost every weekend. In his later years he volunteered playing for care homes and was well known for his musical talent. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, farming and gardening. He cherished the family gatherings and playing cards. He was a firm believer in the AA program.
