Rod was born on June 2, 1976 at the Swift Current Hospital to Mary-Jeanne & Arnold Penner. Rod was the middle child having an older brother Rocky and a younger sister Keri. The 3 kids used to have lots of adventures on the farm together from building rafts to boat across small dugouts usually ending up with boots full of water to making forts and traps in the round bales. Right from a young age Rod’s love for animals was evident from working on the farm with the horses and cows to cuddling with the small inside dogs and even taking pride with all of his fish and snails later on in life. He held a big space in his heart for all animals.
Rod loved the role of being Uncle to all of his nieces and nephews right from day one you would catch him snuggling with them. He played an active role in their lives from cheering them on the cheering them up. There would always be daily phone calls and Face Time visits to see what happened in their day. He loved to tease them but mostly he loved to spoil them with his love and attention. They are so lucky to have a special angel watching over them.
Rod and Lindsay loved spending time together from going on shopping trips into the United States, to going on day fishing expeditions and always making time to go visit both sides of their families. Rod enjoyed catching up with his friends over a cup of coffee, with visits always lasting a lot longer than expected.
After graduating grade 12 from Morse High School, Rod went off to Lakeland College. Rod had several jobs throughout his short life from working on farms to getting his 1A license and driving for numerous trucking companies taking him throughout Canada and the United States. Rod always loved seeing all the new places that work would take him to. Most recently Rod was driving shuttle van for CP Rail. He always made close friends with every job he had.
Rod had those big blue eyes and charming personality making it easy to like him. While he was going through his cancer treatment he was awarded « Best Patient » on the MICU floor and also he was awarded « #1 Patient » on the oncology floor by the nursing staff. He was a regular at the Robin’s Donuts coffee shop located in the Pasqua Hospital that when the staff seen him coming they would get his order ready so he didn’t have to wait in line as well sometimes they would even pay for it. Rod had also become close friends with the Home Care staff in Swift Current. He always spoke so highly of all the staff he encountered during his journey which we are so thankful for. Rod had a heart of gold and will be deeply be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Rod’s memory to the Swift Current SPCA. Warren’s Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
