OBITUARY
Robert McConnell Todd
October 29, 1936 – July 26, 2018
TODD, Robert McConnell
1936-2018. Died peacefully at Dartmouth General Hospital on July 25, 2018. Born October 29, 1936 to the late Florence (Robinson) and Robert M. Todd Sr., he will be loved and missed by his wife of 56 years, Rachael (Lyons), children Susan and David, grandchildren Sarah and Michael, and brother Thomas. A leader in the Nova Scotia construction industry, he enjoyed a successful 30-year career with Lindsay Construction, including 12 years as President, and played a major role in the creation of one of the Halifax waterfront’s best known landmarks, Purdy’s Wharf. He was named a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors in 1999, and an Honourary Life Member of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia in 2010. Known to all simply as “Bob,” he was a man whose modesty and quiet concealed a keen intellect and dry wit. Bob was devoted above all to his family, but found time as well for his passions: fly fishing, travel and photography, and remained loyal in the face of frequent disappointment to the Toronto Raptors and Blue Jays. A diligent researcher into both Todd and Lyons family genealogy, he took great pride in being a member, along with Rachael, of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The family wishes to thank his longtime physician Dr. Sarah Brydie and the doctors and nursing staff at Dartmouth General for their dedication and kindness – especially Ceilidh and Derek. At the request of the family, the service will be private. Donations in his memory may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
