Robert Bob Moore September 20 2018

Robert Derek Moore
On the morning of Thursday, September 20th, 2018, Robert Derek Moore, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Manitoba. Bob’s passing was sudden, but peaceful, at the age of 88.
Bob is survived and mourned by wife Margaret, son Grant (Bev) Moore, daughter-in law Karen Northcott, grandchildren Kassidy Moore and Kerry (Joey) Van Braeckel, Patrick Northcott (Kari), and great-grandchildren Eliza, Ethan and Avery. He is preceded by his parents, Horace and Margaret, his son Bruce (in 1977), sisters Dorothy Lawson and Mary Scott, and infant brother John.
Bob was born on May 7, 1930, in Winnipeg, the fourth child of Horace and Margaret (Dickson) Moore. He was schooled in Winnipeg, completing grade nine, and worked with the Canadian Armed Forces reserve Signal Corp at age 15. He remained a member until after his marriage. In 1946 Bob began his true career of 46 years within the Aerospace industry. At age 16 he joined MacDonald Brothers (later bought and re-named Bristol Aerospace) and remained with the job he loved until May of 1991.
As a lifelong learner, Bob attended years of night school, self studied and trained extensively in his field. He worked his way to Director of Repair and Overhaul, and held a great deal of responsibility within the company. There was not much about “fixing airplanes” that he didn’t know. While working, and in retirement, Bob was a long time supporter and volunteer at the Western Canada Aviation Museum of Canada, involved with restoration, as well as some acquisition and administration work.
In August of 1951, while working in Carberry, Manitoba, Bob met, and courted the love of his life, Margaret Fisher. Our family joke is he found himself an “older woman,” as Margaret’s birthday was actually May 5, 1930, two days before his. They married in Wellwood, on July 5th, 1952 and had just over 66 wonderful years together.
Making their home in Winnipeg for many years, and later an acreage outside Stonewall, Bob and Margaret raised two boys, and have celebrated the births of three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, to date.
There wasn’t much that Bob couldn’t turn his hand to, aside from airplanes. Since he couldn’t fit a big one in the garage, Bob began building and flying remote control scale models. He was an accomplished wood worker, building many pieces of furniture, finishing basements, remodelling their homes and cottage, building his garages. In 2004 he took a wood carving course and produced many whimsical and wonderful pieces. Bob was quite talented on the keyboard as well. He liked to draw and oil paint a little, and his artistic side shows in many of his photo scrapbooks. Bowling, golfing, water skiing, square dancing, gardening and travel were all favorites of his. Bob and Margaret had the opportunity to tour most of the United States and Canada over the years, and took several overseas trips as well.
A service will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba. Donations in Bob’s name could be made to the Western Canada Aviation Museum, Winnipeg.
