It is with great sadness that the family of the late Robert Gale announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 85 years of age. He was born at his home to the late Afra and Katherine Gale on Apr. 22, 1933 in Millville, Codroy Valley. Graduated high school in 1951 and completed his Pilot training with the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1958. He met the love of his life in Stephenville and married in Feb. 22, 1962 and had his first son Afra before leaving Newfoundland. An opportunity for employment in the Electrical Trade inspired him to get his electrical licence and there began the travel. He worked in Toronto and Alexis was born. A year later an opening for work in Labrador City moved the family there where Robert and Paul were born. When work would complete on the large industrial projects he worked on, the family would be on the move. From St. John, New Brunswick, Mississauga, Ontario where Doug was born. Later to Sarnia, Ontario until he landed a job at Ontario Hydro Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. He settled in Oshawa, Ontario until he retired at the age of 65. The timing was right to return to Newfoundland with his wife to care for his mother-in-law bringing him back to Stephenville. After her passing, He felt the urge to travel again. Bob was not ready to hang up his hat and Maybelle was ready for a new adventure. They were off traveling living in cities across Canada from Vancouver, BC to Marystown, NL, working and visiting family along the way, this time as a couple. Some of the happiest memories he shared with family and friends were created after going back to work. He really didn’t want to stop working after the passing of his beloved Maybelle 5 years ago. He was always checking to see if something would come up so he could travel. Once he realized there wouldn’t be another job for him he decided on two books he would write. One, about growing up in rural Newfoundland and working on the fishing boats, sealing and the saw mill with his brothers and father. We all loved hearing the stories of a simpler time. Life growing up on the farm. The other, about the state of Labour Unions today and the challenges of the worker. He was a union guy all the way, always sticking up for his fellow man. He will be sadly missed by his 6 children: Afra Gale (Melissa), Paul Gale, Tony Young (Flo) in Mississauga, Ontario. Also, his sons Doug Gale, Robert Gale (Lorene), Grand-daughter, Chantelle Gale and Great Grandson Ryker, in Oshawa, Ontario. Also, his daughter, Alexis Starling (Grant), Grandsons Lucas Starling and Blake Starling of Stephenville. Survived by sister, Gert Gillis of Codroy Valley. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. Predeceased by beloved wife Maybelle and brothers’ Gordon, Peter and Johnnie Gale and sisters, Rita Doyle and Dot Oliver and parents Afra and Kathrine Gale.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Robert Bob Gale April 22 1933 August 31 2018..
