OBITUARY
Robert Allan Spiers
July 30, 1946 – June 25, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bob Spiers on Monday June 25th, 2018. Bob was born July 30th, 1946 to parents Irene and Leonard Spiers in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Bob leaves behind Nancy, his loving wife of 41 years, and their three children; daughter Pam, a teacher who has taught in Vernon, Nunavut and other cities around the world; son Chris, an RCMP member who is currently serving in the high artic; and eldest son Greg, a software engineer working for the BBC in the United Kingdom. He is also survived by his brothers Gerry and David and mother Irene.
Bob grew up in Winnipeg and left to pursue his career with Panam in Churchill. His career led him to Vancouver in 1975 where he met Nancy. They lived in Vancouver and were married two years later before moving to Vernon BC in 1991. Bob took an interest in local politics and worked tirelessly to help improve the city of Vernon. He was elected to city council in 2008 and served the residents of Vernon for two further terms.
Bob supported his family through all their decisions and pushed his children to do great things in their chosen fields. If you knew Bob you know that he was never one for the spotlight and didn’t like the attention on himself preferring to do the work behind the scenes. As per his wishes there won’t be a public service. The family would greatly appreciate if instead of flowers a donation was made to charity. Bob was a big supporter of the Cops for Cancer events by the RCMP and the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the paramedics, nurses and doctors that ensured Bob was well taken care of in his last few hours. We truly appreciate the kindness and caring that was shown to us.
We’d also like to thank the staff at Vernon Funeral Home for helping the family through this tough time.
Most of all we’d like to thank all our friends and family who have shown their thoughtfulness and support.
