OBITUARY
Robert (Bob) Achilles Joseph Desjardins « Bob » died at the QEII Hospital in Halifax on January 1st, 2018 at the age of 67.
He was born to the late Raoul and Lucienne (Sarrazin) Desjardins in Montreal, QC and was the 7th of 9 children. The Navy brought him to Halifax where he lived for most of his life, although Montreal was always home. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Shirley Paige, his former wife Nancy Cook, his cherished children Robert (Jennifer Moir) and Danielle (Iain MacLeod), stepdaughter Angela Lajoie, the lights of his life; his grandchildren Flynn, James and Vadaas well as step-grandchildren Rowan and Kenna to whom he will always be fondly remembered as Grandpapa (Papa) Bob. He is also survived by siblings Claudette (Gilles Dépelteau), André, Yolande, Guy (Line Tremblay), Lucie (Raymond Drouin), many nieces, nephews and other family members. He is predeceased by siblings Gilles, René and Jacques. Bob spent his early career in the Royal Canadian Navy, joining the reserves in 1966 and later the Regular Forces in 1968. He retired from the Navy in 1985 as Petty Officer 2nd Class having worked as Naval Signalman. He later worked for I.M.P. Group in their Technical Publications Department until the early 2000s. Bob also worked as a bookkeeper for many small business owners for almost two decades. Many of his clients became friends and important people in his life for many years. In retirement, Bob most enjoyed travelling near and far with Shirley as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved summer life at the campground that he shared with Shirley in Bridgewater, often hosting friends and family for visits there. He enjoyed reconnecting with old friends from his school years and fellow veterans from his days in the Navy. He had a knack for entertaining and took great pride in cooking wonderful meals for his family to come together at. Bob’s family is grateful for the many extra years he was given thanks to the excellent care from the Heart Function Clinic at the QEII and his family physician Dr. Cooper Stacey among other health professionals who helped him to be able to enjoy life to its fullest over the last few years. A service will be held on Monday January 8th at 1:00 PM in Atlantic Funeral Home located at 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville.Internment to follow for family only. Donations in Bob’s name, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Heart Function Clinic at the QEII Hospital.
