Obituary of Rita Gates
96, Halifax, formerly of Herring Cove, passed away on September 12, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Guest House, Halifax, NS. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Richardson) Brophy. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove. She is survived by daughters, Rita Dominique, Waterloo, PQ, Mary Probert (William), Timberlea, and Linda Penny (Stewart Judd), Lower Sackville, her son, David (Lily), Lower Sackville, a half sister, Marie Reid (Robert), Ontario, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris, daughter, Helen Kimber, sisters, Eileen, Edna, Helena, Genevieve, Mildred, Bertha, and Thelma, brother, William, nephew, William, step sisters, Dorothy and Edith, and step brothers, Graham and Eric. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hugh Matheson and the Staff of Spryfield Medical for their care, as well a special thank you to the staff and volunteers on 2nd Floor, St. Vincent’s Guest Home, for the care and attention given to Rita. Mom will be remembered by her endless amount of energy well into her 90’s.
As per Rita’s request, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Vincent’s Guest Home, or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
