Rita de Raspe (Massey)
August 29, 1920 – December 29, 2017
Born in Sturgeon Falls to Alfred and Rose Anne (Ray) Massey both of whom died in 1922. Rita was raised by JP and Lull de Raspe. She was the 8th of 9 children born to the Masseys, all of whom have predeceased her: Edna (Gagnon); Archie; Winnifred (Rouleau); Ruby, Joseph, Sister Bernadette Massie; Jacqueline (Britton); and, Marguerite Bertrand. She was a career Public Servant employed primarily by the then Department of External Affairs until her retirement. She travelled widely in her job with postings in the Far East, Africa, South America and Europe. After retirement, she obtained her BA from the University of Ottawa. Rita never married. She loved to travel; she was an avid reader; a staunch supporter of the Ottawa Senators; and she enjoyed fine dining, the arts, theatre and music which she shared with her many friends and family. In her early years in Ottawa, Rita enjoyed singing and was a member of theatre and musical groups appearing in local performances. She was also a very reliable cat sitter and enjoyed taking care of her friends’ cats. Rita was generous and supported many charities during her lifetime. She leaves to mourn her many nieces and nephews. Friends may pay respects
