OBITUARY
Reverend John L. Teibe
The Reverend John L. Teibe, dearly beloved husband of Anne Teibe and devoted father of Marilyn, Lorin and Marlene, passed away peacefully at the Sarcee Hospice on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 90 years of age. John was born in 1928 at Ance, Latvia and immigrated to Canada with his family as a youngster, settling in Rochfort Bridge, northwest of Edmonton.
While attending Berean Bible College in Calgary, he met the love of his life Anne Cirankewicz. After his graduation from Berean, John and Anne married and moved to Innisfail where he served as Pastor of the Innisfail Baptist Church. Four years later, John and Anne responded to God’s call to foreign missions and moved to Bombay, India to work with Youth for Christ International. They experienced God’s blessing and a warm response of India’s youth. After a short furlough, a renewed spirit guided the family back to New Delhi, India where their ministry impacted the lives of young people through TAMI clubs held in their home, and other outreach programs.
Pastor John and family moved back to Canada in 1976, where John became Director of Youth for Christ in Toronto. They returned back to Calgary where John ministered as Senior Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church for a number of years and then as Pastor of Seniors at First Baptist Church (Calgary) where he served faithfully as Pastor Emeritus right up to the time of his passing. Pastor John’s prayer focused ministry extended across the city. He was active in the Calgary Evangelical Ministerial Association and was instrumental in planning and organizing Citywide Prayer Rallies and the Tuesday Morning Prayer services. Pastor John’s loving spirit and big smile touched the hearts of all those who knew him.
Pastor John is very lovingly remembered by his daughter Marilyn Henriques; grandchildren Michael, Dana and Lauren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Yanina Kernick; brothers Norman and Milton; sister Carol; as well as numerous extended family members of Teibes in Edmonton. John was pre-deceased by his dear wife Anne, daughter Marlene, and son Lorin.
