Dekker, Reintje « Jean » (nee Ruijer)
A resident of Chatham, Reintje « Jean » Dekker passed away with her family by her side at Meadow Park Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in her 81st year.
Born in Holland on August 9, 1937, Jean was the daughter of the late Hendrikes & Martha (nee Sijberden) Ruijer.
Devoted wife of 60 years to Henry Dekker.
Beloved mother of Bernard Dekker of Chatham, Henry Dekker Jr, & wife Elizabeth, of Mississauga and Lisa Faber, & husband Tom Faber, of Chatham.
Grandmother of Victoria Franks, Evan Dekker, Hana Dekker, Karl Faber, Nikita Flemming, and Thomas Howe-Faber.
Great-grandmother of Troy LaRose & Maverik Flemming.
Survived by 3 brothers & 2 sisters, living in Holland. Predeceased by 2 sisters & 1 brother.
Missed by many nieces, nephews & extended family.
Her greatest joy was being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & friend to all of her loved ones. She loved her husband, her family & loved travelling with Henry. She was a devoted member of First Reformed Church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school, and loved knitting & sewing things with love for her grandkids.
Family to receive friends on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St.Clair Street, Chatham from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service for Jean will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday at First Reformed Church, 632 Lacroix Street, Chatham. Burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to Meadow Park Nursing Home for Staff Appreciation.
