Réal (Ray) Georges Bordeleau
(Retired Sgt of the Canadian Armed Forces)
Resident of Ottawa, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the age of 81 years at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice Care Ottawa. Ray was born in Montréal on April 21, 1937 to parents Georges Bordeleau and Simone Bordeleau (née Verette) and was one of four children: brother André (deceased), Gilles, and sister Claudette.
He lived in Montréal until he joined the Canadian Air Force and lived and raised his family in various military postings including Bistroff, France; Baden-Solingen, Germany; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Sioux Lookout, Ontario; North Bay, Ontario; Valcartier, Quebec and finally Ottawa, Ontario. Ray was predeceased by his wife Réjane (“Janot”) Rivard and together they had three daughters. He will be sadly missed by his daughters: Linda Bordeleau (husband Paul Gawryluki); Chantal Bordeleau (partner Calvin Thompson); and Sylvie Bordeleau (partner Jim Armstrong). Ray’s five grandchildren will remember him fondly: Blair Wilson; Zachary Prenner; Matthew Prenner; Olivia Vale and Ethan Vale. He will be greatly missed by his partner of many years, Joanne Brydges and the many friends he cultivated during his 34 years in the Armed Forces and with The Commissionnaires for the last thirty years where he worked until March of this year.
A reception to celebrate his life will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery, and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa on Thursday, October 25, from 1pm to 4pm. There will be Words of Remembrance shared at 2pm.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Carleton Place Hospital and the entire staff and volunteers of Hospice Care Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice Care Ottawa or Heart & Stroke Foundation, or any charity of choice.
