Peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Portage General Hospital, Raymond Robichaud of Portage la Prairie and formerly of Alonsa, MB., passed away at the age of 84 years.
Ray was born in Quebec City on March 19, 1934 to Romeo and Cecilia. He was the youngest son and the sixth of seven children. He enrolled and served in the Canadian Armed Forces and served in the artillery division of the army as a gunner and was stationed for duty in Germany. Following his time in the army he worked in Quebec and ventured west to Manitoba for more promising employment
Ray settled in Winnipeg, working as a mechanic for a number of years and it was here he met his future wife Sophie Ryznar at a cafe she was working in. They were married on September 2,1961 in Alonsa and lived in Winnipeg until 1976 when they returned to Alonsa for the next twenty four years. In 2000 they made their last move to Portage la Prairie where they resided in the northwest part of the city.
In his early years, Raymond enjoyed both hunting and fishing and he and Sophie would take occasional fishing trips on weekends. Ray was a sports fan and he favoured hockey, especially the Montreal Canadiens and watching movies. He also was known to enjoy a spirited card game, especially « Canasta » and « Spike & Malice ».
Raymond was predeceased by his wife Sophie in 2005, his parents and most of his siblings. He is survived by his in-laws, Mary and Jim Williams, Rose-Marie Ryznar, Marlene Ryznar, Kathy Ryzner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:00 a. m. in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1125 Saskatchewan Ave. East, Portage la Prairie.
