Ralph Douglas Constable
With heavy
hearts, the family of Ralph Constable, announce his death, at home, on
Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the age of 90. Born June 7,
1928 at home, 49 Waterloo St. in Moncton, to Horace and Hazel
(Crossman) Constable.
Known for
his ready smile, with all his own teeth – attributed to
brushing with Lifebuoy soap as a boy – and sparkling brown eyes full
of mischief, Ralph had an unbeatable love of life and fun, a quiet
strength wrapped in dignity, compassion and
humour.
A lifelong
car man with an incredible work ethic – if Grampy couldn’t
fix it, nobody likely could! As a teen, Ralph memorably took apart and
disected an Indian motorcycle on the kitchen floor while his parents
were away in Boston. He started his formal work life as a machinist at
CNR Moncton, then at South Devon Round House. Later, as a mechanic and
Shop Foreman at Ashfield’s, Fredericton. In the early
1960’s, he joined the Volvo Canada team as a Sales Rep and
travelled extensively, while driving very cool cars. In 1971 he moved
the family to Moncton to become Shop Foreman at Taylor Ford –
« the best boss we ever had » – until his
retirement.
Loving
partner to Dorothy Kelly, with whom he shared four years of love and
laughter. Dad to Brenda Losier (Grant) of Moncton; loving Grampy to
Carol Dunn (Cameron) and great grandsons, Colin Ralph and Owen, of
Fredericton; brother to Horace Constable (Ella) of Coverdale and Hazel
Rickard (Richard) of Riverview; brother-in-law to Bea Constable and
uncle to several special nieces and nephews. Ralph thought
the world of the « Kelly kids », Gary (Jocelyn), Stephan
(Janice), and Karen Cormier (Bob); grandchildren, great grandchildren
and extended family.
In addition
to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Rickard)
Constable (2009); beloved son, Randy (1968); great grandson, Mathew
(2001); brothers, Jack (Greta), George « Bill » (Mary Jane),
Burden « Bud » and Lester (Eileen); sisters, Helen Wilbur
(Watson) and Reta Farley (Herb); nephew, Kevin Rickard; sister-in-law,
Caroline Rickard and brothers-in-law, Alan Rickard and David
Rickard.
As per
Ralph’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657
Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Private interment at Sunny Bank
Cemetery at a later date.
In Ralph’s memory,
donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a charity of
choice would be appreciated. We will honour his memory by practicing
kindness, gentleness and gratitude, as he modelled throughout his
life. Online condolences for the family may be shared at
