Obituary of Preston McKeever
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Preston James Alexander McKeever. Preston passed away suddenly in his home May 28th 2018. He will be remembered fondly by the many who were lucky to have had the opportunity to know him.
Preston was born in Kingston Ontario on the fifth of September 1944, to Earl and Margaret McKeever. Preston grew up and attended school in Port Hope Ontario. After a brief stint with General Motors, he continued his education at Lakehead University, leading to a career in forestry that would lead him to west coast of British Columbia, and to Northern Ontario. It was on the dance floor of the Mayfair Hotel in Schreiber Ontario, that he met Pam Adey. They were married and built a log cabin home on Walkers Lake where they were joined by their son Jim and spent more than 35 years together. After Pam passed, Preston relocated to the Annapolis valley to be closer to his son Jim, his grandson Sheamus as well as for the nutrient rich garden soil.
Preston worked for many years for Kimberly Clark forestry and retired to pursue his many passions in life such as gardening, fishing, shooting, and hunting. Preston’s gardening skills even landed him the back cover of the Stokes Seed Catalogue where he was holding a prize sized cabbage he grew in his garden. He loved introducing individuals to recreational target shooting and spent time as a firearms educator. Whether it was building a masonry oven, repurposing material, or learning a new hobby, he always had a project on the go. Preston was always up for a good conversation and enjoyed spending time with friends and family over a nice meal with drink.
Preston is survived by his sister Susan Derbyshire, son Jim McKeever (Nicole), grandson Sheamus McKeever and a wonderful collection of nieces, nephews, in-laws and long-time friends.
A reception will be held celebrating the life of Preston McKeever Saturday June 16th, from 2-4pm at 226 Highbury School Rd., Canaan NS. A celebration of his life will also take place in Ontario at a later date (specifics TBD). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annapolis Valley Regional Library, the Annapolis Valley Shooting Sports Club or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Preston
