1954-2018
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jack Brian Poznikow on May 9, 2018. Jack was born July 18, 1954 in Nelson, BC, the first born child of Bill and Helen Poznikow. The family resided in Salmo BC before moving to Ross Spur, BC, renting a small log cabin for a year. Bill and Helen decided then to move to Fruitvale BC buying a home at 310 Pine Avenue.
Jack had the rule of the roost for almost four years when Helen gave birth to his brother Dan. It didn’t stop there – two years later another addition came to the family, his sister Nina. Bill and Helen weren’t finished yet when along came the youngest addition of the family, Wayne.
Growing up Jack was an adventurous type of kid, he loved to explore. He was very athletic. There was nothing he couldn’t do. Jack played baseball where his team won a regional trophy. He also played basketball, soccer and loved to ski at Red Mountain. Jack’s biggest passion was fishing. He would wake his brother Dan early in the morning during those summer months packing a square of Parkey, a bag of rolled oats, a fry pan and matches that he stole from his parents. The two of them would head to Beaver Creek. When the first fish was caught, the two would start a fire and have a fish fry. (By the way Jack caught all the fish).
As Jack grew up his adventurous spirit caused him to leave his parents house to try the hippie way of life in the Pend D’ Oreille, coming back and forth to visit his family.
Jack was very artistic. He loved carving and woodwork, his favorite medium was diamond willow, and was able to see grains and patterns that most of us would miss. Jack work was exhibited in Dawson Creek BC. He had a talent for drawing those crazy 70’s album covers. Music was another passion. He loved playing his harmonica and he really could sing.
Jack loved nature – you could say he embraced it; from picking mushrooms, to gardening (he had a very green thumb), to hunting and of course fishing. His favorite story to tell was when a humming bird landed on his finger, he would grin ear to ear when he told it.
Jack had numerous jobs, from logging up and down the west coast, plowing snow for Emcon, and running heavy equipment in Northern BC. It was during his logging years he met Marlyne Harrison. The two took to each other and had two beautiful daughters Jodie Lynn, and Niva Helen. They resided in the Happy Valley in Rossland.
Jack is survived by Helen Poznikow (Les York), by daughters Jodie Lyn (Eric), and Niva Helen (Cailen), grandchildren Tyra, Raya, Stowyn, Costin, and Kingsley, brothers Dan (Tracy), and Wayne, sister Nina, niece Carly (Andrew), nephew Jacob (Katrina), great nephews Aiden and Nolan, and great niece Laila.
Jack was predeceased by William Poznikow.
The Celebration of life will be held on July 18, 2018 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2056 Columbia Avenue, Rossland, BC at 3:00 pm.
