Elaine Petkau RN passed away August 6, 2018 at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in her 83rd year. She is survived by her husband Wilfred, sons Keith (Wendy) and Gregory (Mary); daughter Danna Ramsay (Allan); brother Daniel (Pamela); six grandchildren; one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Marie, her parents and sister Linda. In 1953 Elaine entered the nursing program at St. Michael’s Hospital in Lethbridge, AB. After graduating in 1956 she continued working at St. Michael’s Hospital and it was there that she met her future husband, Wilfred, an RCMP officer. They married in 1957 and were transferred to Burnaby, BC, spending the next 25 years in the Vancouver area. The children were born during this period and she also worked at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. Moving to Kelowna in 1982, she took up employment at the Kelowna General Hospital and retired in 1995. As a hobby she loved knitting, crocheting and cross-stitching. She was an avid bowler and a regular at Capri Bowling Lanes until medical issues made her stop in April 2016. A special thanks to the staff at Hospice House for their compassion and kindness. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 am from Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Elaine’s memory to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z6.
