DUCHESNE, Peter Harwood
Peter Harwood Duchesne (b. 1948) passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side at the Guelph General Hospital on Monday, February 12th, 2018. He was the beloved son of Paul and Ivy Duchesne (née Harwood), and predeceased by brothers Paul and David, and great-niece Danielle. He is survived by his twin sister Patricia (Colin), his brother Bryan (Gwen), nieces Suzanne, Karina (Justin), Pauline, Gillian (Dan), Jenny (Tim), and nephews Scott (Diana Arenburg), Christian (Allyson), Devon (Marlies), Alain, Neil (April Johnson), and David. He is great-uncle to Garreth, Joardan, Katelyn, Megan, Robyn, Daniel, Willow, Oliver, Faith, Ava, Angela and Charlotte.
For decades, he worked in acquisitions at the National Library of Canada. He was also an active trade unionist, a disability rights activist, and a leader in Scouts Canada, primarily in the Manor Park area of East Ottawa. He also spent many enjoyable years at St. Brigid School helping young readers. Peter travelled extensively following retirement, in particular spending several enjoyable winters in Makannai, India with his friends Rod and Murali.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ gathering for all who loved Peter will be held this upcoming spring. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, a donation to Scouts Canada Foundation, to the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
