Died peacefully on December 6, 2018. Dearly beloved husband of the late Theresa (Terry) McNab formerly of Montreal and of the late Doris Murchison of Ottawa. The son of the late Fred and Edith Lesser of Quebec City, he was born in Kingston and raised in Quebec City. He leaves to mourn his son Robert (Patricia) of Almonte, grandchildren Rob (Tania) and Angela, and great grandchildren Robbie and Caitlyn, and Gary Hills of Toronto and Allan Hills of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his twin sister Pauline Hills of Ottawa and sisters Florence and Marion who died in childhood. He leaves his best friend and caregiver Lilian Diaz.
After returning from overseas in 1946, he joined Bell Canada and served for over 27 years in various locations, Quebec, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Ottawa, Toronto and finally in Headquarters Labour Relations in Montreal. Major Lesser also served 23 years in various Militia Units and Militia Group H.Q. and received the Coronation Medal.
An active member of St. George’s Cathedral, he was also active as a Bell Canada Pioneer, member of the Royal Kingston United Services Institute, and the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. The family extends sincere gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff at Providence Care Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion.
Resting at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Friends will be received on Sunday, December 9 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will held on Monday, December 10, at the CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE (corner of King St. W. and Johnson St.) at 11:00 a.m. Cremation and interment will follow at Cataraqui Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Major Lesser’s name may be made to St. George’s Cathedral and would be appreciated by the family.
