Obituary for Paul Picard
It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing at the Timmins and District Hospital after a short battle with cancer at the amazing age of 81 on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was surrounded with love and music. Born in Kirkland Lake March 13,1936 to his parents Guillaume (Willie) and Valeda (St-Onge). Paul was the beloved husband of Shirley (Kelly) for 58 years. He will be dearly missed by his daughters Kim Hache of Calgary and Kelly-Ann Lahaie (Luke) of Timmins. Cherished grandpapa of Emily and Scott Hache of Calgary and Spencer and Connor Lahaie of Timmins. He is predeceased by his sister Colette Roger and his brother Roger Picard, brothers-in-law Chanel Roger, Michael Kelly, Gene Kelly, and sister-in-law Nicole Kelly. He is survived by his sister Rita Kennedy (Late Gerry) and sister-in-law Yoli Picard. He will be dearly missed by the Kelly Family: Doris Morrissette (Leo), Doreen Blais (late Marcel), Norman Kelly (Agathe), Lily Labelle (Late Paul), Joyce Kelly, Marlene Godin (Late George), Gail Venneri (Sergio), Pat Donovan (Late Dave) and Colleen Francq (Mike). Each of these lovely sisters-in-law believed in her heart that she was his favourite, and he definitely loved them all! Many nephews and nieces will surely miss their Uncle Paul, but they will have many funny stories to keep in their memories.
Married in August of 1959, Paul and Shirley created a life for themselves in Timmins with the exception of a brief move to Ramore to work on the Air Force Base. Paul had a variety of jobs over the years such as working on the railroad, being a sign maker and working in a bakery. All of these jobs came with great stories. Paul worked for many years for The City of Timmins in the public works department, working long days and nights during the arduous Timmins winters. He was required to retire in 1988 after an injury. He then went on to find a new passion in oil painting and became very good at it by teaching himself with Bob Ross videos. He was also known as the Captain of the Moonglow and could be found during many weekends on Horwood Lake. He loved fishing and having family and friends on the houseboat. He was happiest with a beverage in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. He loved to have fun!
We would like to take the opportunity to thank Dr. Ciccone for his support and care in the recent weeks and to Dr. Eric Paquette for tending to Paul’s many health issues for nearly 30 years. Also to Chrissy and Anu who gave such wonderful care at the TDH Hospice Centre.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday November 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Cathedral. The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at
Lessard-Stephens
Funeral Home
705-268-4488
Remembrance donations to the local food banks or The Lord’s Kitchen would be appreciated. Paul always wanted to make sure people didn’t go hungry.
